The boys were playing in the schoolyard and one youngster was very aggressive. He got the nickname "Tagger" which described his actions as well as attitude. He came from a large family of seven boys and 3 girls. Tagger was the youngest boy, but not the youngest child which made his position in the family confusing at best. A typical mid-west family, each child had their prescribed chores and the expectation that they would be done without much coaxing.
It was time for summer vacation and the older children knew what they were doing and where they were going. Tagger was only 11 so he had no idea whether he wanted to try something new or follow in the footsteps of one of his older brothers. Tagger thought that it was time for a change, no matter what.
